Take Heart!
Words of Assurance in Tribulation

“I have said these things to you, that in my you may peace. In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
I love these words of Jesus. They give my heart great comfort. In our journey of faith, we know that tribulation is certain. We face challenges every single day in this fallen and broken world- whether it be personal loss, health problems or crisis around our globe.
In the context of this verse, Jesus is speaking to His disciples at the Last Supper. He is preparing them for the coming challenges they will face when He departs from them. He warns them of the trials they will encounter in the world.
He does not promise them a life free from struggle. He gives them the assurance that despite the trials of the world “He has overcome them!” What an assurance of hope for us! This hope is rooted in the truth that Christ’s victory over sin and death is a victory that we share in.
As Christians, we understand that these hardships are not without a grand purpose. They serve as opportunities for us to grow in relationship with our Heavenly Father. We are reminded through them of our reliance on God.
In our times of testing, Jesus’ words of triumph give us confidence.
When we live in this light and truth, our faith guides us through life. Our faith then influences our attitudes and responses in the face of trials and adversity. It empowers us to be resilient by drawing strength from Christ’s victory on Calvary.
We have a calling then to grow in relationship with our Father through prayer and fellowship with one another. In the midst of life’s storms, we can take heart knowing that Christ has overcome the world. And because of this, we know that He works all things in this life for good.
All for His glory.

“But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in my weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
