Refocusing Your Spiritual Lens
Three Key Aspects to Concentrate on in Your Christian Walk

“Fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” - Hebrews 12:2
In an increasingly busy and distracted world, many of us find ourselves juggling a million things at once. Sound familiar?
It leaves one wondering, “Where should my focus truly lie?”
With countless demands on our time and attention - work, family, social life, even digital devices - it can be easy to lose sight of what we should be genuinely focused on. This lack of focus can lead us down a path of stress or confusion.
There’s an even bigger cost to losing focus on what matters. When we lose our focus, we risk feeling disconnected from our relationship with God. Our faith walk becomes less about following Jesus and more about keeping up with the demand’s of our busy lives.
But what if we could reclaim our focus? What if we can center it on aspects that actually align with our faith? What if we could bring our attention back to God’s Word and promises?
We read this truth from Psalm 119:105, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.” As Christians navigating through a world filled with constant distractions, we know that focusing on God’s Word and His promises is crucial. It’s where truth is actually found! It’s where we learn more about ourselves.
The Bible is a spiritual compass for us. It helps guide us through life’s complexities. It’s filled with promises and wisdom that bring comfort, direction, and clarity in times of uncertainty. What an important Book of Truth that we have access to daily! God’s very Word is designed to not only show us our sinful nature and to show us the risen Savior, but it shows us what our eyes should truly be focused on!
But this is easier said than done. Many of us want to focus our eyes on Jesus, but we fail time and time again. I think the problem here lies in the fact we try to focus our eyes on too many things.
Picture a camera lens trying to capture a beautiful scene with people, the sky, and an immense landscape. If you attempt to focus on all of these elements at once, you lose the details and richness of each of the individual elements. But, when you focus the lens on a single object within the scene, the details become clear.
But my life is blurry! So what is should I focus on?
We reads in Hebrews 12:2 to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfected of our faith.” Jesus lived a life of love, humility, and sacrifice. He had an unwavering obedience to God. He handled adversity with grace. He offered forgiveness even towards those that ridiculed Him.
Our eyes should be on emulating Jesus, the perfect example and role model. When we do so, we can navigate our daily lives with more patience, love, and resilience. Everything else becomes clearer when that’s our one main focus.
The ultimate way that we can do this is by serving others. Our faith is not just about a personal journey. It’s not about focusing our eyes on Jesus just so our life can be more fulfilled. It’s about serving others in love. That is how we emulate Christ. Our Christian walk should be marked by selflessness, focusing on the love Christ has for us to those around us.
In the midst of the noise and hustle of life, when our focus is on Christ, our journey gets enriched. We do so by meditating on God’s Word and by serving others. When we do that, we are able to focus on what matters most - making disciples and expanding His kingdom to make His glory known.
