The Power of Discomfort
How Leaders Can Help Others Push Their Limits

No one has ever achieved anything of significance without first pushing themselves to do something that they don’t want to do. Discomfort is a necessity catalyst for growth. When we stick to what we know and what feels comfortable, we miss out on opportunities to learn, grow, and develop new skills. So, as a leader, it’s essential to help your team see the value in discomfort and encourage them to take risks and try new things.
But here’s the thing: it’s not enough to simply tell people to step outside of their comfort zones. As a leader, we need to model that behavior ourselves and create a culture that supports and encourages risk-taking and exploration. This means providing opportunities for out team to try new things, providing support and resources to help them navigate discomfort, and celebrating their successes and failures along the way. Discomfort isn’t easy, but it’s essential for growth.
Pushing beyond one’s comfort zone is like laying the foundation for a house. Just as a sturdy foundation is essential for a strong and stable house, stepping outside of one’s comfort zone is the foundation for growth. Without a solid foundation, a house may crumble and fall, and without the willingness to embrace discomfort, individuals may miss out on opportunities and final to reach their full potential.
The build requires time, effort, and patience to construct. Discomfort experienced in the process of laying a foundation is a necessary part of the journey. Seek discomfort and find growth.
