How to Develop as a Leader

"Leadership is not about being in charge. It’s about taking care of those in your charge.” - Simon Sinek
We all want to develop as a leader. Most simply put, leadership is service. Leadership is helping someone else for their benefit. You have to give intentional thought behind who needs you each day.
Those that you are leading need you. But more specifically what do they need? More specifically than that what do each of them as individuals need? Needs vary from individual to individual. The challenge for a leader then becomes “How can I best serve the group as a whole AND each of the individuals?” That’s where sacrifice comes into play. Service is sacrifice. It’s putting your own wants and desires aside so that you can pour time and resources into others. For the busy-body that can produce anxiety as you already have such a packed schedule. But, if you can’t take time out of your schedule to pour into others in a consistent, positive way then you are not a leader.
If you want to develop as a leader, you have to serve more. Regardless of how busy you are, you have to find time to pour into people each day. Be a light for someone else. And it’s not just something that you can turn off and on whenever you feel like it. It’s something that you have to do consistently. That’s where trust is built. That’s where relationship is built. And that’s how leadership is built.
Serve others and you will develop as a leader.
