I Know Where I'm Going!

A Bold Statement of Hope and Assurance That Should Guide Our Life

“I know where I’m going!”

Is that an arrogant statement to make?

As Christians in this world, this is a bold declaration. It is likely to be met with a ton of hostility. As Christians, this is a truthful declaration of assurance. This declaration is my hope. It’s what guides my life. This conviction doesn’t just give me a glimpse into eternity but it shapes my life here on earth.

“I know where I’m going!”

It’s not a message to be whispered. It should be proclaimed with boldness and certainty! And we don’t shout this message with arrogance - far from it! We shout it because of the promises of Christ. Jesus offered His disciples this assurance in John 6:39, “And this is the will of Him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that He has given me, but raise them up at the last day.”

It’s not due to any work that we have done! It’s by God’s grace! This salvation was secured solely through Christ’s sacrifice.

Now, this acknowledgement seems a bit audacious to the world. But we are not passive recipients of God’s grace. We are active recipients of it! And because we are active recipients of God’s grace, we can have courage in this life!

We have been called into this bold journey in our life on earth. This journey is marked by many trials and tribulations. Paul describes it as a race. I like to talk about it as building a house. As we journey, we do this with the knowledge that we aren’t alone, but that God guides our steps. We know the destination before hand. We know the finish line. We know what is being built.

We are bearers of this news now. As Christians, if we genuinely believe that we have the true message of hope for humanity here on earth, it is our responsibility to share our faith with the world. We have the invitation and it needs to be delivered. We are called to be lights in this world. In every interaction we have, in how we respond to adversity, in how we arise every morning - everything that we do needs to point back to the risen King.

It’s through us that others see Him. We read in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

We are to declare: “I know where I’m going! Come with me! See what He has done! See how glorious He is!”

The broken need this message. The lost need this message. The marginalized need this message. This has nothing to do with anything that we can do. It’s by the Spirit that we can move!

If we truly have this message of hope to a broken world, we need to share it with urgency. The assurance of salvation should be so evident in our lives that it completely shapes how we live. And we’re not going to be perfect at this. But it’s not about perfection - it’s about grace. This grace accepts and transforms. This grace feeds the hungry. This grace is a light to those lost in the darkness.

We have certainity in a world of uncertainty.

To God be the glory!

💭 QUOTE OF THE DAY

“The questions we must always ask of suffering is this: What could possibly be worth it? Jesus’s flabbergasting claim is that he is.”

I have a poem for you today. Give it a read:

“God’s Grandeur” by Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-1889)

“The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil,
And wears man’s smudge and shares man’s smell; the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.
And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went,
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs—
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.”

“But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in my weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
